8 maj 2026: The Blood Cancer Association has just had a nice study visit from our sister organization in South Korea, KBDCA, Korea Blood Cancer Disease Association.
(Group picture from left) Jiyeon Baek, director of KBDCA, Ronald van Veen, Blood Cancer Association, Chulhwan Lee, vice chairman of KBDCA, Sofia Segergren, secretary general and Sandra Alm, chairman of the Blood Cancer Association.
The teams from the two sisterorganisations exchanged experiences of how differently our two countries work when it comes to the healthcare system.
That a person who receives a blood cancer diagnosis in Sweden in principle actually receives good treatments regardless of income and personal finances. That through our tax system we pay in advance for any healthcare treatments, which are often terribly expensive.
This is not the case at all in South Korea and there KBDCA helps patients with financing drug treatments. KBDCA collects large sums of money in various ways, including through donations and some needy patients can then receive expensive treatments, which they absolutely could not afford from their private funds.
The Blood Cancer Association's vice-chairman Ronald van Veen gave a lecture in English for the long-distance visitors, who listened attentively and with interest.
The Korean guests are in Stockholm, Sweden for a week and are also visiting the annual conference that the EHA, European Hematology Association, is holding in Stockholm this year. https://www.facebook.com/korbloodcancer
